If you are looking for a special date location or somewhere to take your valentine, maybe even a place to get a group together try Rosenthal Wine Bar and Patio.
Ok, so we know that Millennial force is changing the face of how we drink wine. Smithsonian Mag reported that in 2015 we drank 159.6 million cases of it!
Keg parties are out, (not completely) probably because we spend so much time in front of our devices and we want to be able to have a good chat. Now we are on the hunt for the perfect place. Rosenthal Wine has been a favorite and a well-kept secret by Malibu’s locals. Rosenthal Wine admittedly looks a little tacky from the outside. It is right on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) and has a giant table and chair set featuring a large wine bottle and wine glasses on the way into Malibu. Sure, it might be a bit ‘fugly’ but don’t judge a book by its cover! (It’s perfect for that Instagram shot after a few glasses).
Location, Location (for wine lovers)
It is the only wine bar along PCH in Malibu and due to this, it is magnificent.
Rosenthal captures the true laid back nature of the Malibu lifestyle. Sit in the sea breeze, soak in the sun, sip on local wine and listen to the live band.
The true advantage to this location is the patio at the back of the property featuring live music on both Saturday and Sunday. Bring some nibbles, often they will have a food truck to cater on weekends then grab a bottle of wine and sit back in the sun and listen to the free concert. Rosenthal provides free live music for guests on the weekend from 1 pm through to 7 pm.
If wine tasting is more your style, hang around the front bar and sip on the weekly selection. Tastings are preselected and change every week. Tastings are $14 + tax for four wines.
If you are a wine fanatic, their Wine Club is well worth it. They hold exclusive quarterly Member Socials at the Estate, weekly complimentary tastings, members-only access to limited production and library selection wines along with first access to new releases and food pairings.
I have had a range of the wines but nothing beats the Chardonnay, it has a fresh taste with buttery undertones and it is perfect for an afternoon.
The location has picked up a few awards. It ranked #29 in the Yelp Nightclub and Bar Daytime Hot Spots out of all the ‘spots’ in the USA and it truly is one of the best places I have been in LA so far. It has a 4.4/5 rating on Facebook (currently with 314 votes), Foursquare gives it 8.7/10 (currently 105 votes) and Google gives it a 4/5 (currently 58 votes).
I also love it because it draws such an interesting an eclectic mix of people. If you love to people watch, as I do, this is the place for you. There are the young and the rich sporting their designer handbags and floppy felt hats, the more mature crowd who have come to ‘the beach house’ for the weekend, the music lovers, the first dates and the boys out for an ‘afternoon sesh’ in their flip flops. Still, the best part is that the nature of the area is accepting and comfortable. It tends to bring the best out of everyone who goes to relax for a few hours.
If you are in the area during the week they have a Happy Hour Monday to Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm where you can save $2.00 a glass of the Surfrider collection.
Do consider Uber or a designated driver and bring a few dollars, parking costs $6.00 for the day.
They do take reservations so if you have a larger group or want to reserve an area I would recommend to call ahead.
