I used to be a Valentines Day skeptic. I didn’t like the stigma around it or the fact that if you didn’t have a partner it made me or my single friends feel awful! We would throw little Valentines Day parties but it just made me feel like I was missing out on something.  Still, for those of you with a special someone, it is a nice time to stop and think about acknowledging and celebrating your relationship.

Still being a believer takes some guts!  The ability to be vulnerable, spontaneous, romantic and show your special someone the appreciation that you might not always find time to give is what this day is really what this day is all about.

Valentines Day doesn’t have to be expensive, all you really needs is a little thought and the best way to do it is with words. However, we aren’t all Shakespeare … so here are some of my favorite quotes from the most famous wordsmiths of all time for your Valentines Day card.

“All everything that I understand, I understand only because I love.” Leo Tolstoy

“In case you ever foolishly forget: I am never not thinking of you.” Virginia Woolf

“I saw that you were perfect and so I loved you. Then I saw that you were not perfect and I loved you even more.” Angelita Lim

“I swear I couldn’t love you more than I do right now, and yet, I know I will tomorrow. Leo Christopher

“At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet”. Plato

“To love is so startling it leaves little time for anything else.” Emily Dickinson

“We are shaped and fashioned by those we love”. Goethe

“When love is not madness it is not love” Pedro Calderón De La Barca

“He’s more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.” Emily Bronte

“I wish I could turn back the clock. I’d find you sooner and love you longer.”  (Unknown)

“You don’t love someone for their looks, their clothes or their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear.” Oscar Wilde

“Better to have lost and loved than never to have loved at all” Ernest Hemingway

“Where there is love there is life” Mahatma Gandhi

“Love loves to love love.” James Joyce

“We’re all a little weird, an life’s a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” Dr. Seuss
